Why does my time card require a meal break?

Workyard enforces meal breaks based on rules set by your manager. Here’s how it works and what you’ll see:

How it works

  • Admin rules – Your administrator sets the minimum break length and when it must be taken (for example, a 30-minute meal break after 5 hours of work).

  • Clocking out without a break – If you try to clock out with no break, or with a break that’s too short, you’ll see an error message telling you what’s required.

  • Auto-added breaks – If you forget to add a break, Workyard will automatically insert the required break for you. When this happens, you’ll see a wand icon next to the break time. Tap the wand to view the rule your administrator has set.

Why this matters:

These rules help keep timecards accurate and ensure compliance. No edits needed later by your admins.

Example:

Let’s say your company rule is: a 30-minute break is required after 5 hours of work.

  • If you clock out after 5 hours with no break → you’ll get an error asking you to add a 30-minute break.

  • If you forget to add a break → Workyard will auto-insert one, and you’ll see the wand icon next to it.
